Maria (Feeny) Carney (1803 – )

Maria (Feeny) Carney (1803 – )

Relationship: 4 x great grandmother

Born: 1803 in Roscommon. Baptised 11 October 1803 in Elphin Parish, Roscommon (speculation)
Married: 27 January 1820 in Elphin parish, Roscommon to Thomas Carney
Died:

Parents: Father – Richard Feeny; Mother: Margaret Brennan (both speculation)
Spouse: Thomas Carney
Children: Bridget (1820); John (1824); possibly Thomas (see below)

The above is the only baptism I can find in Roscommon for a Maria (or Marie) Feeny in the correct date range. It isn’t necessarily our Maria, so I’m marking as speculation only.

Maria’s children were born in Cloonmahan. In 1857, Griffith’s Valuation shows that her husband, Thomas Carney, leased land and house in Cloonmahan, Strokestown, Rosscommon from Arthur Joseph French. The land cost £6 a year, the house cost 15s a year. It was 110 acres shared with 10 other families (John King, Bryan Murray, Luke McNeil, Michael Flynn, Owen Carney, Owen Carney Jnr, Jeremiah Conreen, Patrick Moran, Peter Kelly and Thomas Carney Jnr).
Note: although it’s possible that Thomas Carney jnr is Thomas’s son, I can’t find a baptism for him.
